Nvidia Pours More Billions into Record-Breaking Share Buyback
Nvidia has announced another massive stock buyback program, adding $150 billion to its existing authorization of $80 billion. This brings the total remaining amount authorized for share repurchases to $235 billion.
The move is part of Nvidia's ongoing efforts to cash in on the global race to dominate artificial intelligence (AI) and accelerated computing. According to CEO Jensen Huang, 'Nvidia's growth is being driven by a once-in-a-generation platform shift to AI and accelerated computing.'
Share buybacks are seen as a way for companies to reward investors by limiting the supply of shares for sale, which can potentially lift stock prices. However, critics argue that this practice takes money away from potential investments in hiring, construction, or research and development.
Vivek Arya, a research analyst at Bank of America, said 'By telling you that I'm buying back my stock, I'm essentially conveying my sense of confidence in my future.'
