Nvidia raises Shield TV Pro price by $100 amid component shortages
Nvidia has raised the price of its Shield TV Pro streaming box by $100, bringing it to $299.99 as of October 2nd. The increase comes amid a global memory shortage that has driven up component costs for various electronics, including digital cameras and game consoles. When the Shield TV Pro first launched nearly seven years ago, it was priced at $199.99 with 3GB of RAM and 16GB of storage.
Alongside the price hike, Nvidia has discontinued the entry-level Shield TV model, which previously offered a cheaper alternative. This version featured the same Tegra X1+ processor but with 2GB of RAM and 8GB of storage, originally priced at $149.99. Moving forward, Nvidia will focus solely on producing the Pro model.
The price increase is largely due to the high demand for Nvidia’s other hardware, such as GPUs and AI chips, which has contributed to rising component costs. While this may reduce demand for the Shield TV Pro compared to cheaper competitors like the $149 Google TV Streamer, it is unlikely to impact Nvidia’s overall value, as the company remains a leader in the AI sector.
