Nvidia raises Shield TV Pro price by 34 percent with no new model in sight
Nvidia has significantly raised the price of its Shield TV Pro streaming box, marking a dramatic change seven years after its launch. The company has added an extra $100 to the device's price, bringing it to $299.99 in the US. Despite its age, the Shield TV Pro remains a top-tier streaming device, competing closely with the Apple TV 4K. However, unlike Apple, which is expected to refresh its four-year-old device soon, Nvidia shows no signs of releasing an upgraded model.
The price hike comes as Nvidia has also discontinued the cheaper Shield TV model, making the Pro version the only option, now at a much higher cost. The company attributed the increase to rising component costs, particularly memory, which has affected the entire tech industry. However, the reasoning raises questions, especially if Nvidia is still manufacturing the Pro model. The device's availability has also dwindled in many regions, with Nvidia no longer listing it on its UK web store.
For UK consumers, the price increase hasn't been implemented yet, though the device is nearly impossible to find. The situation leaves many wondering why Nvidia hasn't introduced a new model, especially given the substantial price jump. Competitors offer equally powerful streaming devices at lower prices, making the Shield TV Pro's new cost harder to justify for consumers.
