Nvidia Raises Shield TV Pro Price by 50% Amid DRAM Crisis
The Nvidia Shield TV Pro, which launched in 2019, has seen a significant price hike despite being seven years old. Instead of introducing a new model, Nvidia has raised the price by 50%, from $199 to $299. This increase is attributed to the ongoing DRAM crisis, which has driven up production costs due to expensive RAM and NAND flash memory.
The Shield TV Pro remains one of the more powerful set-top boxes available, thanks to its Nvidia Tegra X1+ ARM chip, which is similar to the one found in the first-generation Nintendo Switch. Despite its age, the device supports 4K HDR video at 60 frames per second, 24-bit 192 kHz hi-fi music, and game streaming via GeForce Now.
The price increase is expected to help Nvidia manufacture the Shield TV Pro in larger quantities, as inventory has been low in recent months. While the DRAM crisis has led to price increases across various tech products, the scale of this hike is notable given the device's modest specifications of just 3 GB of RAM and 16 GB of storage.
