Nvidia RTX 5070 Claims Top Spot in Steam's GPU Rankings, 32GB RAM Gains Ground
Nvidia's GeForce RTX 5070 has taken the top spot in Steam's hardware survey, surpassing other popular Nvidia GPUs. According to Valve's September 2026 Steam Hardware Survey, the RTX 5070 accounted for 5.86% of surveyed systems, a significant increase from its previous share of 3.56%. This marks a departure from traditional dominance by Nvidia's xx60-series GPUs in the survey.
The shift in GPU market share is accompanied by a notable change in system memory configurations, with 32GB becoming the most common RAM configuration at 42.22% of surveyed systems. Meanwhile, 16GB systems remain extremely prevalent at 37.82%, still comprising the majority of Steam PCs.
The current memory shortage and its impact on prices may have contributed to this trend, as players may be opting for better-equipped mid-range systems to avoid further upgrades in the near future. However, it is essential to consider that Steam's Hardware Survey is based on a random opt-in sample and can be affected by changes in participation.
