Nvidia RTX 5090 Buyers Must Now Sign Declaration Form and Provide ID
Micro Center, a US-based retailer, has introduced a new policy requiring customers to fill out a declaration form and provide government-issued photo ID when purchasing an Nvidia RTX 5090 GPU. The move is aimed at preventing scalpers from buying up the graphics cards and reselling them in China.
The 'advanced computing product purchaser declaration' requires buyers to declare that they do not intend to export and resell the GPU. Customers must also provide a scan of their government-issued photo ID, which can be a driver's license or passport. This measure is intended to prevent people from buying up GPUs in the US and selling them on for a profit overseas.
Some customers have expressed frustration with the new policy, calling it 'ridiculous' and a waste of time. Others see it as a necessary anti-scalping measure that will help prevent price gouging and ensure that GPUs are available to those who need them.
The policy has been introduced at several Micro Center stores in the US, including locations in California and Ohio. It is not clear if other retailers will follow suit.
