Nvidia Secures Goldman-Backed Financing Deal Worth Over $500 Billion
Goldman Sachs is in talks with potential investors to participate in Nvidia's $500 billion AI financing initiative. The Wall Street bank has a long-standing relationship with Nvidia and was recently named as one of six major financial institutions partnering with the chipmaker to launch compute platforms for AI infrastructure.
The deal, which aims to raise over $500 billion in third-party capital for AI infrastructure, highlights the growing demand for artificial intelligence computing capacity. Insurers, money managers, and banks are expected to form the core investor base for the financing, while asset managers plan to retain a sizable share of the financing.
Nvidia has partnered with six major financial institutions, including Goldman Sachs, Blackstone, and Apollo, to launch the compute platforms. The bank's central role in the deal marks the culmination of years of ties with Nvidia, which includes advising the chipmaker on several transactions and technology financing deals.
The structure of the Nvidia financing differs from earlier AI infrastructure deals that relied heavily on vendor guarantees. Instead, the company has given investors the option to backstop up to $125 billion, or 25% of the potential deals, creating an asset-backed market for AI compute.
