Nvidia Seeks Insurer Help with AI Startup Loan Risk

Nvidia is seeking to involve insurers in taking on risk for AI startup loans. The company wants them to cover potential losses if neoclouds default on their debt.

This new finance structure would benefit Nvidia's fastest-growing customers, who need access to capital to purchase the high-powered chips they use. In this proposal, insurers would compensate lenders in case a neocloud defaults and its GPUs cannot be resold for a high enough price to repay the outstanding loan.

Nvidia is also exploring structures where insurers syndicate risk with hedge funds and other alternative investors. The chipmaker has already shared data on chip depreciation and how future computing capacity will be valued with at least one insurer.
