Nvidia Shields Customers from Reality with 50% Price Hike
Nvidia has raised the price of its Shield TV Pro streaming device by almost 50% to $299.99, citing industry-wide component cost increases and a decline in supply for older semiconductors.
The original price of the Shield TV Pro was $199.99 when it launched at the end of 2019. The device's specifications have not changed since its release, including a Tegra X1+ chip, 3 GB of RAM, and 16 GB of internal storage.
Nvidia attributes the price hike to rising memory costs, specifically LPDDR4 memory, which is slowly being phased out in favor of newer standards like LPDDR5. This reduction in supply has driven up prices for manufacturers relying on these chips.
