Nvidia Teams with Goldman Sachs on $500 Billion AI Financing Push
Goldman Sachs is playing a key role in Nvidia's ambitious plan to mobilize over $500 billion in third-party capital for AI infrastructure development.
The Wall Street bank has been courting investors, including banks, insurers, and private credit firms, to join the initiative. Through its asset management arm, Goldman can offer junior capital and private credit financing, as well as help funnel debt into private credit funds and public debt markets.
Nvidia founder Jensen Huang approached Goldman Sachs with the idea for the AI infrastructure financing initiative, according to CEO David Solomon. The bank has a long history of ties with Nvidia, having advised the chipmaker on several transactions, including its $6.9 billion purchase of Mellanox Technologies in 2019.
The partnership between Nvidia and Goldman Sachs is part of a larger effort to establish compute financing platforms aimed at supporting customers including frontier AI labs, enterprises, and cloud providers. The structure of the financing differs from earlier AI infrastructure deals, which relied on vendor guarantees. Under the new deal, Nvidia has the option to backstop up to $125 billion, or 25% of the potential deals.
