Nvidia Trailer Heist Ends in Sand, Not Silicon

Thieves targeted two Nvidia-branded trailers in Newark, California, thinking they contained expensive graphics processing units (GPUs). However, they ended up with something entirely different: sand.

The trailers were loaded with 20,000 pounds of sand each, which was meant to simulate loads for autonomous trucks being tested by Nvidia and PlusAI. The tech company had partnered with PlusAI to test self-driving trucks and needed the sand to weigh down the vehicles. This was done as part of their research to improve autonomous transportation.

The thieves abandoned the trailers after discovering they weren't getting the high-value hardware they thought they would. No arrests have been made yet, but it's clear that these thieves were in for a shock when they realized what they had stolen.
