Nvidia Unveils $500B AI Data Center Plan, Guarantees GPU Value
Nvidia has announced a plan to partner with major financial institutions to create AI data centers worth up to $500 billion. The company is guaranteeing that its chips used as collateral in these deals will retain their value, addressing concerns about 'wrong way' risk.
Under this plan, Nvidia will cover up to 25% of the difference if GPUs used as collateral don't retain their value as expected. This move is seen as a bold attempt by Nvidia to create a secondary market for aging GPUs and sustain demand for its hardware.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang argues that AI infrastructure should be viewed as long-term 'investable infrastructure,' making his company's servers akin to railroads or airlines rather than quickly depreciating assets. He claims that this approach will protect residual value and create a broader ecosystem of used AI hardware.
