Nvidia Unveils Ambitious $1bn Australian AI Expansion
Nvidia has outlined its ambitious plans to expand its presence in Australia, which includes building a massive facility that will consume more energy than all existing data centers in the country. The American tech giant aims to deploy two gigawatts of computing power with partners Firmus and Sharon AI by the end of next year.
The increased demand for computing power is driven by big technology companies such as Amazon, Meta, and Microsoft, which are seeking to harness artificial intelligence capabilities.
Nvidia's plans have sparked concerns about the strain on Australia's energy infrastructure. The company's chips will require more energy than all existing data centers currently use in Australia next year.
