Nvidia Unveils Sentry, Hardware Monitoring Component for AI Agent Safety

Nvidia has expanded its Open Agent Safety Platform to include a hardware monitoring component called Sentry. This addition builds on the existing software framework, OpenShell, which provides boundaries for AI agents by defining what files, networks, tools, processes, and credentials each agent can use.

OpenShell allows operators to set these boundaries and checks outbound requests against those rules, ensuring that agents do not exceed their designated access. This approach addresses a security blind spot in enterprises, where agents can act through accounts and connections that organizations may not govern as closely as employee access.

Sentry, on the other hand, adds a second layer of monitoring from separate hardware using Nvidia's BlueField-4 data processing units. It is designed to quarantine an agent within milliseconds if it crosses its software boundary, providing an additional safeguard against potential security threats.
