Nvidia's AI Infrastructure Play: A New Growth Wave Takes Shape
Nvidia's foray into AI infrastructure development is gaining momentum as the company announces new partnerships and investments. The latest deals see Nvidia team up with Cloverleaf Infrastructure, a startup focused on developing data center sites and foundational infrastructure needed for large-scale data centers.
Under this partnership, Nvidia has made a minority investment in Cloverleaf and will work together to advance AI factory development. This move follows the company's $1.5 billion investment in SB Energy and its 4.25-gigawatt infrastructure agreement for a data center campus in Ohio where OpenAI will be the primary tenant.
Nvidia's expansion into AI infrastructure is driven by the growing need for computing power to support the development of advanced AI systems. According to BMO Capital, Nvidia's potential upside doesn't lie in its leadership alone but also in being a 'leading supporter' of the AI ecosystem.
The company has been increasingly explicit about this shift, with partnerships aimed at mobilizing more than $500 billion in third-party capital for AI infrastructure. This strategic move has sparked cautionary views from some investors, such as Michael Burry, who warned that Nvidia's 'circular financing' approach could be another housing crisis in the making.
Nvidia is also reportedly in talks with Rebellions, a South Korean AI chip startup focused on inference, and Poolside, an AI startup focused on building models for software development. These deals would give Nvidia deeper exposure to AI models and talent while expanding its workloads requiring large amounts of computing power.
