Nvidia's Chip Sales Set to Double Amid AI Boom and Safety Concerns
Nvidia's Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang predicts that chip sales will double next year, surpassing his previous estimate of a 70% jump. Speaking at an event hosted by King Charles III in Scotland, Huang emphasized the broad potential of AI technology to boost productivity across various sectors.
Nvidia's revenue reached $96.2 billion in the quarter ending July, exceeding analyst expectations of $92.2 billion. The company stands at the center of the global chip boom, controlling about 80% of the AI accelerator market. However, its dominance is being challenged by hyperscalers like Meta, Microsoft, Amazon, Google, and OpenAI that are boosting spending to develop custom silicon and reduce reliance on Nvidia.
Huang urged tech firms to run thorough safety tests before releasing AI tools, dismissing the need to slow AI development. Companies bear ultimate responsibility for verifying that their AI software and deployment systems are fully safe before public release, he noted.
