Nvidia's Huang Predicts Boom in Skilled Trades Jobs as AI Data Centers Boom

Nvidia's Chief Executive Jensen Huang is challenging the conventional wisdom that AI will displace white-collar jobs, arguing instead that the next wave of six-figure salaries will be found in skilled trades like electricians and plumbers.

Huang describes the global rush to build AI data centers as 'the largest infrastructure build-out in human history,' which he says will create a surge of high-paying opportunities for construction workers and others.

A report from McKinsey estimates that the U.S. will need an additional 130,000 trained electricians, 240,000 construction laborers, and 150,000 construction supervisors between 2023 and 2030 to meet demand.

Huang's comments contrast with warnings from other corporate leaders like BlackRock CEO Larry Fink, who has warned that the country will 'run out of electricians' needed for AI data centers. However, Huang is optimistic about the opportunities, saying 'everybody should be able to make a great living' without needing a college degree.
