Nvidia’s New Driver Optimizes Modern Warfare 4 and Fixes Assassin’s Creed Shadows Bug
Nvidia released its GeForce Game Ready 617.42 WHQL driver on October 6, 2026, focusing primarily on optimizing performance for upcoming games. The driver addresses a single gaming bug in Assassin's Creed Shadows, which caused crashes after extended gameplay when using driver 616.56. This issue had been open since September 9, 2026, under bug ID 6685219.
The new driver includes optimizations for five major titles: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Sim Update 7, STAR WARS: Galactic Racer, and Valor Mortis. However, the changelog remains minimal, with no mention of Advanced Shader Delivery (ASD), a Windows 11 feature that offloads shader compilation from the player's machine.
Nvidia's announcement highlights performance improvements, such as 6X Multi Frame Generation in Flight Simulator, which scales up to 6.4X at 4K. The driver also supports CUDA 13.4 and includes updated modules like PhysX 9.26.0703 and HD Audio 1.4.6.3. The desktop installer weighs 990.85 MB, slightly larger than previous versions.
Modern Warfare 4 is set to launch with Campaign Early Access on October 16 for pre-order customers, with the full release, including multiplayer and DMZ, on October 23. Other key releases include Dragon's Dogma 2: Dark Arisen on October 9 and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Sim Update 7 on October 13.
