Nvidia's Next-Gen Graphics Card Shifts Focus from Power to Efficiency
The next-generation GeForce RTX 60 series graphics cards are expected to prioritize power efficiency over raw performance. According to the hosts of Tech YES City and Moore's Law Is Dead, the key goal for developers should be a radical increase in silicon power efficiency, rather than a mechanical increase in thermal design.
The previous flagship model, the GeForce RTX 5090, was criticized for excessive power consumption and colossal heat dissipation. The reviewers noted that endlessly increasing power consumption for minimal frame rate gains has exhausted itself, with PC users refusing to install four-slot heatsinks and pay higher electricity bills.
Given the significant design challenges associated with heat dissipation, Nvidia may temporarily postpone the simultaneous release of a GeForce RTX 6090 in favor of the more balanced GeForce RTX 6080. The power range for next-generation flagship graphics cards is expected to be between 380W and 450W.
