Nvidia's Unrivaled Dominance in the Graphics Processing Unit Market
Nvidia dominates the graphics processing unit (GPU) market with a massive 95% share. The company's CUDA architecture has been instrumental in its success, enabling Nvidia GPUs to be used for various tasks beyond gaming.
AMD is the closest competitor to Nvidia, but it holds less than 10% of the market share. Intel's Arc division has made some progress with its low-cost and relatively powerful cards, but it still lags behind Nvidia and AMD.
The rest of the players in the GPU market include Apple, Qualcomm, MediaTek, and Arm, which design their own chips but don't produce discrete consumer-grade GPUs. Moore Threads from China is another contender, but its MTT S80 card has struggled to compete with current-gen cards due to limited DirectX support.
Nvidia's dominance extends beyond gaming and graphics, with the company generating significant revenue from artificial intelligence, data centers, and crypto-mining. The SEC fined Nvidia in 2018 for misleading investors by misrepresenting demand from miners as demand from gamers.
