NZ Shifts Visa Applications to Enhanced Online System
New Zealand's Immigration Online system is set to become the preferred platform for certain temporary entry visa applications from November 16, 2026. The enhanced system will make it easier for applicants to understand requirements, submit documents, and track their applications.
The transition will cover four visa categories: Visitor visas (including Child of a New Zealander Visitor Visa and Partner of a New Zealander Visitor Visa), Work visa (including Partner of a New Zealander Work Visa), and Student visa, Child of a New Zealander Student Visa. Applicants will be able to upload a digital scan of their passport, reducing manual data entry and improving accuracy.
The new system uses dynamic forms that ask questions based on an applicant's circumstances, providing guidance on required information and supporting evidence. Changes also clarify health requirements for medical certificates and partnership visa conditions. Some residence applications may be deferred when court proceedings could affect eligibility.
