October 2026 Pixel Update Could Be the Last for Pixel 6 Series
Google has released the October 2026 update for its supported Pixel devices, marking a potential end for the Pixel 6 series. The update includes three notable bug fixes: resolving issues with the virtual keyboard appearing in search fields, fixing audio noise during VoIP calls, and correcting orientation problems in photos and videos. Additionally, the update addresses 28 security vulnerabilities and six Pixel-specific security fixes.
The October 2026 update follows the recent Android 17 QPR1 update, which introduced new features like an updated Pixel VIP widget, UI changes, and improved screen recording. Google notes that the rollout will continue in phases over the next week, so availability may vary by device and carrier.
This update could be the last for the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, as Google initially promised three years of major OS updates and five years of security updates for these devices. In December 2024, the company extended this support to five years of both OS and security updates, which expires in October 2026. While Google hasn't confirmed this as the final update, it is likely unless further extensions are announced.
To check for the update, Pixel users can navigate to Settings > System > Software updates > System update. Factory images and OTA files are also available for manual installation.
