A popular Amazon-sold heated blanket brand is recalling over 170,000 units due to fire and burn hazards. The Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a recall on July 30 after receiving reports of 555 incidents involving melting, sparking, and smoking.

The affected blankets were sold under the name OCTROT Electric throws and blankets from August 2021 through December 2025 for between $40 and $60. There have been 27 reported fires and 15 burn or electrical shock injuries as a result of these incidents.

The recall affects blankets with a white controller featuring five temperature settings, and the controller's cord has two or four small holes at the lower connection point near the controller. The model numbers OCT-5060, OCT-5062, OCT-6248, OCT-7248, and OCT-8490 are printed on the product packaging.
