Coca-Cola has awarded its European football brief to a team led by Ogilvy, a WPP agency. This is despite having creative duties for the giant account supposedly handled by WPP.

The pitch was against Publicis' Le Pub, Studio. One, and Uncommon Creative Studio. Coca-Cola has invested heavily in football campaigns, with some lively ads, but this is the first time it's been a separate project.

Ogilvy seems to be the lead agency on WPP Open X work and has recently won or retained several Coke assignments. Meanwhile, Studio. One, founded by former AKQA boss Ajaz Ahmed, has already picked up a Christmas assignment from Coca-Cola.
