O'Hare Airport Hit by Third Runway Blowout Emergency in Four Days
Chicago's O'Hare International Airport (ORD) has been plagued by tire blowouts in recent days. On Monday, August 17, two separate incidents occurred within hours of each other.
The first incident involved an American Airlines Boeing 737-800 that landed at around 2 p.m. local time. The plane, which was arriving from LaGuardia Airport in New York, suffered two tire blowouts and had to be temporarily removed from service.
Passengers were safely deplaned via airstairs and bussed to the terminal. An American Airlines spokesperson apologized for the inconvenience and praised the professionalism of their team members.
The second incident occurred just a few hours later when a United Airlines Airbus A320 suffered a tire blowout upon landing at 5:30 p.m. local time. The plane, which was arriving from Omaha, Nebraska, also had to be removed from service for investigation.
This marks the third runway blowout emergency in four days at O'Hare International Airport. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating both incidents and has not yet determined a cause.
