Ohio State and Google Cloud Unite for AI Research and Education
The Ohio State University and Google Cloud have formed a strategic partnership that spans scientific research, campus technology, AI education, and student services. The initiative will create an AI-focused space within Ohio State's Innovation District and establish research collaborations with Google DeepMind.
Ohio State researchers will gain access to Google's AI-optimized computing infrastructure and over 200 AI models through the partnership. They will also have access to technologies such as AlphaFold, Google Earth Engine, and AlphaEvolve. Additionally, Ohio State will be part of an initial group of R1 universities receiving enterprise access to Google's AI research agents through Gemini Enterprise.
The partnership will support various core research areas, including biomedical engineering, earth sciences, and the humanities. It will also support Project SCARLET, an AI-powered human performance platform being developed with Ohio State Athletics and the Human Performance Collaborative. The project aims to use predictive models, computer vision, and analytics to support training, recovery, and health across all 36 Ohio State sports.
Ravi V. Bellamkonda, President of The Ohio State University, stated that the partnership 'unites two powerhouses of innovation' and will accelerate research through the AI (X) Hub. Karen Dahut, CEO of Google Public Sector, added that this is one of their largest and most comprehensive education partnerships to date.
