US stock futures were mixed on Monday as investors weighed surging oil prices and ongoing tensions in the Middle East. The market is closely monitoring developments surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, a key maritime chokepoint.

The government in Tehran stated that negotiations facilitated by Oman for a secure shipping corridor were making progress, but officials clarified that any arrangement would not lead to an immediate reopening of the waterway.

Optimism about a breakthrough faded over the weekend after Iranian authorities denied holding direct discussions with the US regarding the reopening of the Strait. As a result, West Texas Intermediate crude rose 1.13% to $79.09 per barrel on Monday, while Brent crude oil climbed 1.15% to $84.51 per barrel.

Investors are also focusing on upcoming consumer and producer price index reports for additional signals on inflation trends. Quarterly earnings results from leading companies in the artificial intelligence sector will be closely watched, particularly from Applied Materials, Cisco, and CoreWeave.
