Oklahomans Advised to Set Thermostats to 68 Degrees to Save on Heating Bills
As temperatures drop in Oklahoma, residents are looking for ways to save on their heating bills. According to Isa Almeida of The Oklahoman, setting thermostats to 68 degrees during the day when at home and lowering it at night or when away is recommended by the U.S. Department of Energy.
Honeywell Home suggests dropping temperatures between 60 and 68 degrees at night, but notes that layering up with sweaters and blankets can make cooler air feel warmer without needing to raise the thermostat temperature.
When no one is home, it's recommended to lower temperatures by seven to ten degrees for noticeable savings on energy bills. Other tips from Honeywell Home include sealing drafts, using ceiling fans to push warm air down into living spaces, and humidifying the air to make cooler air feel warmer.
