Oklo Threatens to Outshine Nvidia as AI's Next Big Player
Nvidia is often considered the face of today's bull market, but it needs an energy source like Oklo's reactors to continue its rally. If Oklo grows tenfold, its implied market cap would be $67 billion, while a similar gain for Nvidia would make it a $53 trillion-dollar company.
Oklo is designing small nuclear reactors that can fit on a few acres, roughly two or three football fields, and aims to sell the power generated by these reactors rather than selling the reactors themselves. This approach makes its business attractive to companies that need reliable power for their operations, such as AI data centers.
Investors have already started to recognize Oklo's future value, which is reflected in its hefty valuation of roughly $7 billion. While this may seem high compared to its present-day sales, a tenfold gain in Nvidia would also be driven by similar market factors, suggesting that Oklo has more room for upside over the next decade.
However, investing in Oklo comes with risks, as it still needs to commercialize and scale its reactors. A $67 billion valuation in 2036 is possible if Oklo's reactors can operate commercially, but this is a long-term hypothesis that investors should be prepared to take on.
