Omni Taxi Aereo Chooses Honeywell Radar for Enhanced Pilot Safety
Omni Taxi Aereo, an offshore helicopter operator, has chosen Honeywell Aerospace's IntuVue RDR-7000 weather radar system to equip its entire fleet of 33 Leonardo AW139 helicopters. The upgrade aims to enhance pilot safety and situational awareness during high-tempo operations.
The RDR-7000 is designed to continuously scan the atmosphere, detecting hazards such as turbulence, hail, lightning, and wind shear along the flight path. Independent testing has shown that the system can predict turbulence with up to 93% accuracy, allowing pilots more time to adjust course and reduce the likelihood of a turbulence-related incident by over half.
Omni's CEO, Roberto Coimbra, emphasized the importance of safety in his company's operations: 'Safety is the foundation of everything we do at Omni... Upgrading our entire AW139 fleet with Honeywell Aerospace's radar technology is an investment in our crews, our passengers and the long-term reliability of our operations.'
Honeywell Aerospace's Jose Vincius noted that the RDR-7000 operates automatically, reducing pilot workload during high-tempo operations. The system can also be updated remotely via 'over-the-air' updates, minimizing downtime and ensuring that Omni's fleet remains current.
