One-Minute Hack Exposes Boeing 737 Vulnerability
A recent experiment by researchers from UCSD and Oberlin College has revealed a significant vulnerability in Boeing's 737 aircraft. The team developed an electronic device, approximately the size of a coin, with Wi-Fi connectivity that can manipulate the systems of a Boeing 737, diverting its autopilot or sabotaging its flight plan, within one minute.
The researchers found a small port on the exterior of the plane, accessible without special tools, where they could insert their device. They successfully manipulated the autopilot and flight plan in under a minute, demonstrating that physical access can be just as dangerous as remote attacks.
Boeing has acknowledged the finding and stated that they are taking steps to mitigate this risk, including conducting a comprehensive assessment of the FMC's design and system installation.
