OneDrive Photos App Rolled Out to Millions of Windows 11 PCs by Mistake

Microsoft has admitted to accidentally rolling out its OneDrive Photos app to millions of Windows 11 PCs, sparking user complaints. The app was meant for a select group but ended up on client and enterprise computers without permission.

In an X post, Microsoft's EVP of Apps and Agents, Jeff Teper, confirmed the mistake, stating that the app is an incubation project that was supposed to be tested with only certain users.

Users who don't use OneDrive for photo storage are particularly upset about the unwanted installation. Some have expressed frustration that the app can't be uninstalled without removing the main OneDrive app.

The controversy surrounding the app has raised questions about its design and functionality, with some arguing that it makes unnecessary demands on system resources.
