OpenAI and Amazon Forge $50B Deal Amid Reaffirmed Microsoft Partnership
OpenAI has announced a new partnership and funding commitment from Amazon, valuing the AI firm at $730 billion pre-money. The deal includes a multiyear strategic alliance between the two companies, with Amazon investing $50 billion in OpenAI. However, this new arrangement does not alter the framework governing OpenAI's relationship with Microsoft, which retains exclusive licensing access to OpenAI's models and related intellectual property.
OpenAI emphasized that its partnership structure remains intact, with Microsoft continuing as the sole cloud provider for stateless OpenAI APIs, including those involving Amazon. The company also reaffirmed that its in-house products will continue to be hosted on Azure infrastructure.
The funding from Amazon is contingent on future conditions and begins at $15 billion, with an additional $35 billion possible. OpenAI disclosed $110 billion in fresh funding as part of the deal, backed by SoftBank Group Corp., NVIDIA Corp., and Amazon.
