OpenAI and Microsoft Accused of Stealing Millions of News Articles

The New York Times has accused OpenAI and Microsoft of stealing millions of news articles to train their artificial intelligence models, calling it an 'astonishing theft of unprecedented proportions'.

The lawsuit, which was filed three years ago in New York federal court, claims that OpenAI scraped content from over 10 million articles, with nearly a third coming from the New York Times alone.

Mary Hect, Microsoft's Director of Applied Science, allegedly described the practice as 'the largest theft of labour in human history', while also warning about an 'accidental cover-up' by OpenAI.

However, Microsoft has distanced itself from Hect's statements, saying they are just one employee's opinion and do not represent the company's views.
