OpenAI Partners with Rivals on AI Safety Amid Existential Risk Concerns
OpenAI is working with rival companies Anthropic and Alphabet's Google DeepMind on AI safety, according to Bloomberg News. The development comes after global concerns about AI's existential risks rose following a recent show of unity by America's leading AI labs calling for a pause in the technology's development.
Chris Lehane, OpenAI's global policy chief, stated that his company has been in talks with Anthropic and Google for several weeks. He emphasized that the three companies do not believe they need an antitrust waiver to coordinate on safety issues.
'It's better to try to work together to prioritize safety,' Lehane said at a briefing in Washington, according to Bloomberg News.
