Organizations Overlook HR Leaders in AI Strategy Decisions

A recent study by IBM's Institute for Business Value has found that nearly half of organizations do not involve their Chief Human Resources Officers (CHROs) when defining AI strategies. Despite the growing impact of AI on workforce design, skills development, and organizational change, CHROs are often left out of AI discussions.

The study surveyed 1,500 CHROs and senior workforce leaders alongside 8,800 full-time employees across multiple countries and industries. The findings suggest a disconnect between AI transformation efforts and workforce leadership at a time when organizations are reshaping jobs, workflows, and decision-making processes around artificial intelligence.

The IBM study found that only 28% of CHROs report having a joint roadmap with IT teams supported by a shared operating cadence. Additionally, 73% of CHROs say they struggle to coordinate consistently across the C-suite. The researchers identified a link between HR involvement and employee confidence in AI-driven decisions.
