OsmAnd Maps Gets a Google-Style Makeover

For those who prefer Google Maps but want to try an open-source alternative like OsmAnd Maps, there's good news. While it may not look or feel exactly like Google Maps out of the box, the app is highly customizable. Joe Fedewa, a seasoned tech writer and reviewer, recently tried OsmAnd Maps with a Google Maps makeover in mind.

Fedewa found that changing the map style was a great place to start. Thanks to OsmAnd's many different map styles, users can find one that suits their taste. Two popular options inspired by Google Maps are 'Classic Web Map' and 'Modern Web Map'. To apply these styles, users simply need to download an OSF file from a GitHub repository and import it into the app.

In addition to changing the map style, Fedewa also made some tweaks to make OsmAnd feel more familiar. For example, he removed widgets that weren't essential and rearranged the layout of certain screens. By making these small adjustments, Fedewa was able to reduce the friction associated with switching to a new app.
