OT Security Maturity vs Reality: Honeywell Report Reveals Critical Disconnect
A disconnect between perceived and actual operational technology (OT) security maturity was revealed in Honeywell's 2026 OT Cybersecurity Benchmark Report. The report surveyed 603 leaders across critical infrastructure sectors, including energy, utilities, maritime, oil and gas, and healthcare.
Although 88% of respondents described their OT security programs as mature or design-led, only 21% maintained a complete inventory of their OT assets. This visibility gap extended to monitoring, with just 33% fully integrating OT into a centralised security operations centre, and only 20% continuously monitoring more than three-quarters of connected IoT devices.
The financial impact of OT cybersecurity incidents was substantial. Organisations that experienced significant incidents reported an average of 16.2 hours of downtime. Among those affected, 21% estimated downtime costs exceeding $100,000 per hour, with 4% facing losses above $500,000 per hour.
