P&G Bolsters Health and Wellness Portfolio with $3.8B Thorne Acquisition
Procter & Gamble (P&G) has made a bold move into the booming health and wellness space by acquiring supplements maker Thorne for $3.8 billion in cash.
The deal, announced Tuesday, marks one of the consumer goods sector's most striking deals this year as legacy household-name companies scramble to plant their flags in the growing market.
P&G's existing supplements lineup includes New Chapter, Metamucil, and Align Probiotic, but just last week the company forecast slower annual sales growth overall, even as its beauty and wellness division posted strong results.
Jay Woods, chief market strategist at Freedom Capital Markets, framed the deal as a strategic pivot toward a market with far more horsepower than P&G's traditional household staples.
