P&G Stock Faces Valuation Concerns Amid Modest Growth Prospects
Procter & Gamble (PG) enters fiscal year 2027 with solid fundamentals but faces concerns about its valuation and growth prospects. The company boasts leading brands, strong cash generation, and a productivity program that continues to fund reinvestment.
However, the growth profile remains subdued, with expectations for low-single-digit progress in sales and earnings per share. PG's organic and all-in sales are projected to rise 1-3% year-over-year, while core earnings per share are expected to be flat to up 3% from $6.89.
The company's valuation is a key concern, trading at 20.3 times forward 12-month earnings versus the Zacks sub-industry average of 18.4 times and the Consumer Staples sector average of 17.3 times. This premium looks demanding alongside expected sales and earnings growth near 2% or less.
PG's productivity program has helped offset margin pressure, with about $2.8 billion of before-tax productivity improvement in fiscal year 2026 equal to roughly 340 basis points. However, core gross margin fell 40 basis points and core operating margin declined 70 basis points during the same period.
