P&G Valuation May Be Steeper Than Investors Realize
The Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) is known for its stability and steady financial results. The company sells everyday household products under well-established brands such as Tide, Pampers, Gillette, and Oral-B.
With a global market share of over 35% in fabric care and nearly 30% in oral care, P&G has significant pricing power and operating margins above 22%. The company generates substantial cash flow, returning more than $15 billion to shareholders through dividends and buybacks in fiscal 2026.
However, the stock's valuation is a concern. At around $145 per share, PG trades at roughly 21 times forward earnings, which may be high considering its modest growth outlook of 1% to 3% for fiscal 2027. In comparison, Unilever (UL) trades at a lower multiple of around 16.4 times forward earnings.
The company's valuation history shows that it has often traded at higher multiples than today. While the underlying business remains stable, investors may be paying a premium for P&G's strong brands and consistent earnings record.
