Padres Sign Brent Honeywell Jr. to Minor League Contract in Quirky Reunion
The San Diego Padres have signed right-hander Brent Honeywell Jr. to a minor league contract, in what is an unexpected reunion for both parties.
Honeywell last pitched in the World Series with the Dodgers in 2024 but has been out of action since then. Despite his relatively short stint on the mound, he has experience working multiple innings and handling unglamorous assignments that keep higher-leverage arms available.
The Padres previously DFA'd him after acquiring several pitchers at the 2023 trade deadline. He bounced around to the White Sox, Pirates, and Dodgers before being released by the Giants in March 2026 without pitching an official game.
Honeywell's signature screwball is a rare pitch that has been passed down through his family from former Cy Young winner Mike Marshall. The Padres' manager, A.J. Preller, has a history of collecting players with unusual skill sets and something left to prove, making Honeywell a perfect fit for the team.
