Palantir Faces Long Odds to Join Dow Jones Index
Palantir Technologies has been making waves in the market with its nearly unprecedented success. The company's Artificial Intelligence Platform (AIP) has driven significant gains, with a price increase of nearly 2,700% from its low in December 2022. This has led some analysts to speculate about Palantir's future and whether it will be added to the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA). While the company meets the criteria for inclusion in the index, it faces stiff competition from established players and may struggle to meet the level of maturity that Dow officials look for.
The DJIA includes only 30 stocks, and Palantir's market cap of around $438 billion makes it the 26th largest company trading on U.S. markets. However, this does not guarantee its inclusion in the index. The committee responsible for selecting stocks for the DJIA is run by S&P Global and considers factors such as a company's size, industry, and track record.
Palantir meets several of the stated qualifications for inclusion in the DJIA, including being based in Aventura, Florida, and having most of its revenue come from domestic sources. However, it faces competition from established companies like Alphabet, Meta Platforms, and Tesla, which are part of the 'Magnificent Seven' stocks.
