PaperFlex Consortium Launches to Promote Sustainable Paper-Based Packaging
The Ellen MacArthur Foundation has launched the PaperFlex Consortium to promote the development of recyclable and biodegradable paper-based flexible packaging as an alternative to plastic. The consortium includes major consumer goods companies such as Colgate-Palmolive, Mars, Nestlé, PepsiCo, Procter & Gamble, and Unilever.
The goal is to address the performance and cost challenges of paper-based packaging, which currently lacks the barrier properties, sealing abilities, and durability required for liquid products. Members will collaborate on research and development to create effective solutions.
The consortium aims to reduce plastic pollution by providing alternatives in markets lacking effective recycling systems. Founding members are joining forces to develop and scale solutions faster and at lower cost, benefiting consumers, the environment, and the industry as a whole.
