'Pasoori' Hits One Billion YouTube Views: A Milestone for Pakistani Music
Coke Studio's 'Pasoori' has achieved an impressive milestone of one billion YouTube views, marking a significant achievement for Pakistani music. Released in 2022, the song was the second most-searched globally on Google that year and topped the Hum to Search: Top Songs category. The official music video garnered 90% of its views from outside Pakistan, demonstrating the song's widespread appeal.
'Pasoori' was a collaborative effort by Ali Sethi, Fazal Abbas, Xulfi, Abdullah Siddiqui, and Sherry Khattak. Its blend of Punjabi and Urdu languages with contemporary pop production and folk influences made it unmistakably Pakistani without trying to imitate international styles.
The song's visual identity was also noteworthy, featuring bold imagery with layered references and memorable performances by Sheema Kirmani and Seraiki jhoomar-style dancers. Directed by Kamal Khan, the video added another layer of depth to the song's appeal.
Coke Studio Pakistan's General Manager, Sami Wahid, praised 'Pasoori' as a landmark moment for Pakistani music, reflecting the platform's mission to share local stories and talent globally. The milestone comes as the channel approaches 18 million subscribers, with 'Pasoori' remaining its most-watched video.
