Patel Predicts AI Will Boost Job Creation Amid Tech Layoffs
Cisco President Jeetu Patel is optimistic about AI's impact on job creation despite recent tech layoffs. He believes that while some jobs will be lost, new ones will emerge as a result of AI advancements.
In an interview with ABC7 San Francisco, Patel described Cisco as the 'backbone' of the AI boom, providing critical infrastructure for AI models to function effectively. This includes connecting chips from companies like NVIDIA and AMD across different servers and data centers.
Patel thinks that people underestimate AI's potential because they view it solely as a productivity tool. However, he believes that AI will generate original insights that humans couldn't previously solve, leading to breakthroughs in fields such as medicine, education, and innovation.
Regarding job displacement, Patel acknowledged that some jobs will be lost but emphasized that 'every job will get reconfigured.' He predicts that new classes of jobs will emerge that don't exist today, requiring people to adapt and become AI-fluent. This shift won't mean humans are replaced by machines; rather, it will create opportunities for humans to work alongside AI systems.
