Penn State Considers Breaking with Tradition, Adding Corporate Patches to Jerseys
Penn State's long-held tradition of minimalist uniforms may be about to change. The university is considering adding corporate sponsor patches to its jerseys, a move that would generate new revenue streams but also spark strong reactions from fans who view the Nittany Lions' look as sacred.
The decision comes at a moment when the market for jersey sponsorships is booming. Ohio State recently announced a partnership with JPMorgan Chase worth nearly $17 million per year, and Illinois and Wisconsin have also unveiled patch agreements. Notre Dame has been linked to a possible deal with SoFi.
Penn State Athletic Director Patrick Kraft confirmed that the university is conducting a 'deep evaluation' of the market for a jersey-patch partner. He emphasized that no deal is imminent and that the department will not rush into an agreement simply because other schools have done so.
