Pennant Group, the parent company of home health and hospice services provider Pennant, has maintained census and improved margins in its existing operations while integrating assets from former UnitedHealth Group subsidiary Amedisys.

The integration, which began last year, has seen four transition waves so far, with the fifth wave currently underway. Pennant's local operating model has driven same-store growth during this time, despite expected disruptions.

'Anytime you do an acquisition that's the size of what we've been in the midst of the last year, it can be really disruptive,' said Brent Guerisoli, Pennant CEO and board chairman. 'In our model, we require a lot of our local teams to support anytime we do an acquisition.'

Pennant acquired Amedisys assets for $146.5 million in October 2025 as part of UnitedHealth's $3.3 billion deal for Amedisys. The company has projected a 9.5-11.5% margin profile for the acquired business in 2026, with results coming in 'a little bit above that so far.'
