PGA Unveils 2027 Ryder Cup Selection Criteria: Points-Based System for US Team

The PGA of America has announced the selection criteria for the 2027 Ryder Cup team. The process will begin at the American Express tournament in January 2027 and conclude with the BMW Championship in August 2027. Points will be awarded to all U.S. players across 31 events, with a unique points distribution formula for each type of event.

The top six eligible players on the U.S. Ryder Cup Points list following the BMW Championship will earn automatic selections to the team. U.S. Captain Jim Furyk will make his six captain's picks during the week of August 30 after the Tour Championship. This new qualifying process aims to identify the strongest American players and provide a competitive edge for the team.

Furyk expressed his enthusiasm for the new system, stating, 'I have worked diligently with our team and am pleased to implement a new qualifying process for the 2027 U.S. Ryder Cup Team.' The selection criteria include four Major Championships, The Players Championship, eight PGA Tour Signature events, two playoff events, and 16 full-field tournaments.

The points distribution is as follows: winners of Majors earn 3,000 points, winners of The Players Championship earn 2,850 points, winners of PGA Tour Signature events and playoffs earn 2,250 points, and winners of full-field events earn 1,500 points. U.S. players must meet all eligibility requirements to qualify for the team.
