Pilots Urge AAIB to Probe Boeing 787's Electrical Architecture in Air India Crash
The Federation of Indian Pilots (FIP) has urged the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) to investigate the electrical and avionics architecture of the Boeing 787 in the Air India Flight AI-171 crash.
The FIP's letter, dated September 18, questioned discrepancies between flight simulator timelines and observed aircraft behavior during the crash. The association requested that the AAIB conduct or supervise formal simulator validation exercises to reconcile these differences.
The Boeing 787 Dreamliner operates on a 'More Electric Aircraft' architecture, replacing traditional pneumatic and hydraulic systems with electrically driven components linked through digital networks. The FIP argued that transient electrical disturbances could cause widespread system interaction issues.
